**Karen Dynan** is a Professor of the Practice in the Department of Economics and at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, and a senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics. Her research interests include fiscal and monetary policy, consumer behavior, and economic measurement.

From 2014 to 2017, Dynan served as Assistant Secretary for Economic Policy and Chief Economist at the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Prior to that, she was Vice President and Co-Director of the Economic Studies Program at the Brookings Institution. Earlier in her career, she spent 17 years on the staff of the Federal Reserve Board, and also held positions as a senior economist at the White House Council of Economic Advisers and as a visiting assistant professor at Johns Hopkins University.

Dynan is a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research, where she chairs the Conference on Research in Income and Wealth. She also chairs the American Economic Association’s Committee on Economic Statistics and serves on the Academic Advisory Council of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas and the Smith Richardson Foundation Grants Advisory Committee.

She received her Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University and her A.B. from Brown University.
